One of the most common questions we receive as paranormal investigators is Why do you only investigate at night? Don’t ghosts haunt houses during the day?

And that’s a very valid question considering that the majority of our investigations happen in the wee hours when most people are sound asleep. We typically arrive at our clients’ homes right at sunset, send them out for dinner and a movie, and blearily drive home, air conditioning blowing and the radio cranked, trying our best to stay awake before dawn has even broken.

Of course, Hollywood has popularized the idea that ghosts, poltergeists, demons, and various monsters only come out to “play” when it’s dark. That just naturally ups the scare factor because the human fear of the dark is both ancient and genetic. It’s a fear that all of us at Rockford Ghost Hunters have worked hard to suppress.

But, we don’t always investigate at night. It all depends upon our clients and when the activity seems to occur. The majority of the investigations, though, do happen at night and I think I know the reasons why.

Our audio is better at night

We have found that when we investigate the paranormal, the most ubiquitous piece of evidence we collect are EVPs — electronic voice phenomena. In the two years RGH has investigated the paranormal, we have only collected video evidence, and countless pieces of audio. As stated above, the nighttime is quietest. Traffic is minimal and human activity is low. When the world is quiet, then our audio shines and we aren’t constantly trying to account for every artificial sound we hear.

Our lives are quiet at night

Let’s face it. We don’t get paid as paranormal investigators. We all have day jobs.  Those Monday through Friday, nine-to-five jobs don’t leave a lot of time to investigate during the day. Not only that, but weekends are typically filled with family and errands. So, for us, as paranormal investigators, weekend nights are the best time to investigate! We have, though, investigated during the day. If the client says their activity seems to peak at three o’clock in the afternoon, then we try our darnedest to investigate at 3 PM. More often than not, though, our investigations happen at night when it’s convenient for us as well as the client.

Paranormal investigations aren’t about skulking around in the dark, shining flashlights in dank basements, scurrying through cemetery headstones, or traipsing through abandoned buildings. It’s about the search for the truth regarding the paranormal experiences people have in their own homes. We investigate whenever the clients asks us to do so, and if that means investigating at high noon or the dead of night, then we do whatever it takes!

My name is Greg Bennett founder of Rockford Ghost Hunters. My interests in helping others is based on my own paranormal experiences. With no one to turn to, I sought my own answers. I want others to know that I am here to serve and help bring understanding to their paranormal questions that they may have.

The first thing you, as the client, need to be aware of is that we are entirely a volunteer organization. None of us are paid to investigate the paranormal. We do this to help people and to answer our own lifelong questions. Knowing this, we need you, as our client, to realize that we all have families and jobs that come before RGH We will investigate your home or business to the best of our abilities and will report our findings to you as soon as we are physically able. Please be aware of this when you call us.

The second thing you, as the client, need to know is that our group functions to document activity and to report our findings. We do not bless homes, we do not cleanse homes, and we do not exorcise spirits. We will investigate your home or business and report our findings (or lack thereof) to you. If you decide to have your home blessed/cleansed/exorcised, that is your personal decision and we leave it to you to contact someone from your faith to perform the blessing.
